FLUXOIL

Additives for Cold-Mix Asphalt

street-8656660_1920.jpg

Additives that allow the production of bituminous mixtures workable at ambient temperature, used for road pothole maintenance. They ensure workability of the bituminous mixture even at low temperatures, perfect adhesion of the bitumen to the aggregates, and extremely rapid hardening after application.

Advantages & Benefits

Liquid and pumpable even at low temperatures.

High flash point and boiling point.

Free of volatile organic compounds (VOC free).

Do not emit odors in the mixture, eliminating the fumes and unpleasant smells typical of traditional additives, which can be problematic from environmental, health, and safety perspectives.

Can be handled and transported without special precautions. Not classified as hazardous goods for transport.

Instructions for Use

There are several technologies for producing cold bituminous mixtures; however, the use of FLUXOIL is an essential component regardless of the process used.
The mixture is mainly composed of single-size aggregates with a particle size of 3-6 mm. Depending on specific application requirements, it can be supplemented with sand and filler to improve mechanical performance and the stability of the final product.
The binder used is generally bitumen. Its penetration directly affects the required dosage of
FLUXOIL, influencing the workability and performance characteristics of the mixture. In some applications, bituminous emulsion is used; in others, the binder can be partially or fully replaced with bitumen from recycled bituminous membranes or reclaimed asphalt.
A proper selection of components and
FLUXOIL dosage allows for a high-performance, stable mixture suitable for the specific operating conditions.

A cold mix asphalt, as the name suggests, is a bituminous mixture that can be applied at ambient temperature. Unlike hot mix asphalt, which requires high temperatures for placement, cold mix can be used without the need for prior heating.
This feature makes it a versatile and cost-effective solution for numerous applications, particularly when small quantities of material are required, when hot mix is not available, or when weather conditions do not allow the production or placement of traditional asphalt.

Cold mix asphalt generally consists of three main components:

  • aggregates

  • bituminous binder

  • FLUXOIL additive.

The latter provides the mixture with specific performance properties, including high workability and plasticity at different temperatures, as well as rapid hardening after placement, regardless of weather conditions.

Before applying the cold mix, ensure that the surface is clean and free of debris. Remove any loose material, dirt, or vegetation. The mixture can also be applied on damp surfaces or in the presence of water and does not require a preliminary tack coat with bituminous emulsion. Placement can be carried out using a shovel or rake. Compaction can be achieved with a manual tamper or a small roller; alternatively, it may occur under vehicular traffic, allowing the area to be reopened to traffic immediately after completion of the works. Application is particularly recommended in confined areas and for thicknesses greater than 2 cm.
